After a flight where were all bouncing like Mexican jumping beans in our seats from the ridiculous amounts of turbulence, I finally landed in Montreal! After yet another labyrinth of escalators and moving sidewalks (including one which sloped downwards and had a lot of people freaking out) I passed through Customs with little difficulty other than the awkward explanation that my instrument was my voice. I went to exchange money for a cab ride and happened to run into a lovely lady named Nancy who was also on her way to McGill, though I never did figure out what she was doing here, and we decided to split a cab. She told me about a secretly amazing vegetarian place and a hole-in-the-wall hidden secret of a middle eastern restaurant and assured me that the weather was going to be phenomenal and that I would never want to leave. I'm hoping she's right.
I accidentally woke up my roommate when I finally made it up the 4 flights of stairs with my over-loaded suitcases and for some reason the receptionist didn't feel the need to tell me there was an elevator. Lovely. Turns out my new roommate and I wear the same perfume - great minds think alike. Living together is going to be fabulous.
Our room, on the other hand, isn't quite so glamorous. The beds are so low that our suitcases don't fit under them, and there is only one desk and one set of drawers. Luckily the closet is HUGE so we're taking full advantage of that.
We're off to get lunch and possibly do some shopping - we need SOMETHING to put on the empty walls to keep it from feeling like prison. Gotta say, I love Canadia so far.
