au revoir, America!

Flying out of Dulles has always been an experience, but now that they use the trains instead of the shuttle cars, it’s gotten worse. You go down about 20 escalators to get to the trains, and then once you’ve ridden it for about 2 seconds you get out to go back up a labyrinth of escalators once again. I never thought I’d say it, but I miss the ugly buses. Not only that, but I also was about the farthest I could possibly be from my gate when I got off my little fake metro train and of course the security guards are no help; the signs in Spanish were easier to understand.

I finally arrived at the gate and the guy across from me is creeper-style staring, so naturally I decide that now is a good time to start writing my entry for the first day in order to distract myself from how truly bizarre he is. Knowing my luck, I’ll probably end up sitting next to him the entire way to Canada.

There’s a guy at my gate in a JMU shirt, which makes me feel a little more at home. I was hoping we would sit next to each other but then he whipped out his calculator to play games on it. So long, potential.

I was just informed that there are not 1, but 4 flights leaving from my gate at the same time, so I’m just going to have to be optimistic that I get on the right one. Mayhaps I’ll accidentally take a little jaunt over to Toronto instead! That would make things a little more difficult, but whatever. Also, all 4 of the planes are absolutely TINY and I’ve never been more scared to fly. Don’t get me wrong - I love flying, but tiny planes give me reason for anxiety.

Hopefully I'll be writing from Montreal in my next post!
